I gave this book three stars because compared to everything I ve ever read, I only liked it As far as biographies go, however, it definitely deserves four stars It was well written, concise, and very interesting The topics were well chosen just enough to give us a clear picture of who Eva Per n really was, without overloading the reader with insignificant details It also gives a very clear picture of Argentina s history during each point in Evita s life, so I learned not only about Evita, but qu [...]

I enjoyed this book, even though it was pretty dry Apparently, it s difficult to find information on Evita that is completely accurate, because so many people have different perspectives on her I thought that she was an interesting woman who really was a devotee of her husband and who also believed in good works My father was living in Argentina during Evita s reign and he told me much of what the book said What s most interesting to me, however, was how some people thought that Evita was just a [...]

A critical, thoroughly researched biography of Argentina s most passionately cherished, and despised persona, Evita Eva Peron among other names The myths surrounding her life, death, and burial often overshadow the reality of her life This book attempts to present an accurate account of her life based on documented facts and the recollections of her personal confidantes Evita invoked worship, lust, love, as well as hatred from various social classes in Argentina during her short life 1919 1952 p [...]

Ever since I traveled to Argentina last year I ve been fascinated with Evita In Argentina, her presence is seen and felt everywhere and when you ask people about her they whisper as if still unsure what how to speak of her One man we stayed with in Villa Mercedes told me about a couple of books about her that were no longer published in Argentinad how hard it was to find an objective biography This book read like a story and felt very balanced Everyone came to life and the ups and downs of her l [...]

Excellent and well researched biography of Eva Peron It is cogently written and draws the reader in, as well as sustains attention something I really like in non fiction history The author puts Eva s life into the socio political, historical context of the times in Argentina and beyond Of particular value is his presentation of Eva Peron as an exquisitely complex human being He shatters all of the greedy, one dimensional stereotypes to present a woman, who is multi layered and fascinating Highly [...]

A bit dry parts of it flew by, others were a bit of a slog Provides a lot of context about Argentine history and politics that makes what happened with Peron and Evita understandable Evita continues to fascinate This does kind of make me want to read a book that s a bit harsher toward her, though, as I felt that some of the criticism was somewhat glossed over.

This is a good account for anyone who is fascinated by this extraordinary historical figure who left such an impression on her country and beyond it An honest attempt to understand Eva the woman, the context, and Argentine politics NOT an easy task

Ever since I saw an amateur production of the musical Evita , I knew I had to find out about Eva Per n And this book gave me so much information Not just about her humble beginning s but also about Argentina as a country, it s political, social and cultural aspects I can see why so many people are so intrigued by Evita because she is literally like no one else in the modern age She had such a tragically short life but wow, did she know how to fill it I would love to try and watch some of her fi [...]

Fraser and Navarro did a great job in telling Evita s story, dispelling some myths and identifying messy politics surrounding Peronism I read it in preparation for a Valencia production of the play Evita by Andrew Lloyd Weber learning that even the play is loaded with misinformation, least of which is including Che Guevara as a character, someone she could never have met in her short lifetime It s easy reading I read it while waiting for our electricity to come back on after Hurricane Irma pound [...]

Nicholas Fraser and Marysa Navarro are the authors of Evita The Real Life of Eva Peron, a biography of the Argentine legend Eva Peron Although there has been many books about the biography Eva Peron, the authors goal for this book was to dispel myths and misconceptions of Evita The authors set out to separate myths and the truths of her life, and does so well After reading the book, I think it is up to the reader to differentiate facts and myths about Eva and decide if she was a whore as many pe [...]

Given the subject matter a woman of molten steel this book does a remarkable job of providing the reader with a solid picture of a human being rather than a myth or a Hollywood created icon. Before the movie, I had no idea of who Eva Peron was, save for a name whispered in the annals of history Then she became a larger than life figure as presented by Madonna and Andrew Lloyd Webber hat was interesting but hard to believe or grasp Evita The Real Life of Eva Peron managed to pin down a very real h [...]

There is the musical and then there is the biography For someone that has become larger than life, this bio was merely adequate A great deal was missing, although it is hard to say what it was Evita died at 33, yet her image continued to grow.Leaving her small village to become an actress, Evita took destiny in her own hands numerous times After meeting Juan Peron, she loaded up the moving van, drove to his home, kicked his girlfriend out and moved in After he was deposed, she took to staging ma [...]

For a woman who s life is so interesting that people are still enthralled 60 years after her passing, it s hard to imagine a tedious read I saw Evita live and felt so compelled to read about Eva Peron s life that I checked this book out of the library almost immediately I knew going into this one that a I m not a huge reader of non fiction and b a biography will not likely be as exciting as a musical Five weeks later and only one third of the way through, I find myself struggling to read on an [...]

I have had an incredibly hard time wading through this book While the facts about Evita s life are indeed quite interesting, I cannot discount the fact that this book seems to be written as a research project rather than as a good biography I generally love to read biographies, but I feel the author has done an under par job of bringing the facts into a story form It is very academic However, I appreciate the way the author has presented rumors about her life and then presented historical accura [...]

Mostly, I liked it It s a accurate view of Evita than what the musical shows I love the musical, but it took quite a few liberties with Evita s life , it did go on the occasional tangent, but not enough to take away from the narrative With the exception of the last chapter the epilogue, the author is pretty concise the book would ve been greatly improved if the last chapter was condensed made into the epilogue the epilogue was dropped altogether I also wish the author would ve translated everyt [...]

It was interesting reading, especially the last few chapters that described her death and what happened to her body My major complaint is that it was difficult to tell what was fact and what was speculation It presented a much rosier view of Evita s life than I am accustomed to It would have been better if they d discussed the disparaging viewpoints in depth I d give it 3 4 stars. It also left many questions unanswered.1 What was her relationship with Peron really like This presented the marriag [...]

This was neither hagiography nor unvarnished, and for that reason it was a really great read I ve found Eva Person Evita to be fascinating for quite a while given her iconic status and her meteoric rise in politics and this book both filled in a lot of the blanks and left me with questions, many of which I fear will never be answered given the cult of personality that surrounded her and the Peronist government s general use of propaganda Still a very satisfying read, though it s a pity there ar [...]

Contradicted almost everything I learned from the movie Evita Since the last date on the copyright is 1996, I have a feeling some of the information is out of date For example, there were several plaques marking her grave at the Recoleta Cemetery and the book said there were none I felt the book was clear and the author did a wonderful job of mentioning rumors and then debunking them with facts and multiple sources I haven t read any other biographies on Evita and am interested to see how this o [...]

This was a very difficult read for everyone in my reading group It showed some very insightful characteristics about Evita and how she became so beloved in Argentina She gained the love of a nation because she became part of the people, while also showing them the luxuries of life. This is not the most dynamic biography and challenging to tredge through in the beginning It is a very inbiased view, which is probably what makes it a difficult read.

Not bad, really I ve watched the movie enough times that many of the major events were familiar on the other hand, it meant there were also parts I found a bit dry, waiting for something new to me.If you re like me and the movie musical left you wanting to know what is fact and what is fiction, this book seems as good a place to start as any It also means I m not going to bother with Evita s autobiography, as it apparently is really just a lot of Peronist propoganda.

Standard I read this, but damned if I can remember exactly when, why, or a lot of the details disclaimer My rating is based on my memory of how much or little I enjoyed the book at that time In some cases, at that time might mean before most users were born OTOH, it could mean a couple years ago Your mileage may vary Heck, given how all our tastes change over the years and the fickle nature of memory, my own mileage might vary if I re read it today.

I had to muscle through it, but I learned that politics are polemical I also learned that word Eva Peron was worshipped and then hated, but I think she was just a small town girl caught in a whirlwind I honestly believe with her education or lack there of, that she was doing what she thought to be helpful to her people, whom I believe she sincerely loved, but who knows, after all I am just a small town girl.

Having read this immediately after Eva First Lady q.v , I found this version of Eva s life equally well done but with considerable detail, analysis, and background of the times and culture and politics of Argentina However, I believe that nobody will completely unravel the enduring mystery of Evita and that the musical version which Weber and Rice wrote comes as close as anything to the truth.
