Errr. Well. There is a goodly number of very positive reviews on here for this book, and I am sorry to have to play the devil in this instance. But my experience of the book was overwhelmingly bland, and I truly struggled to reach the ending. Bethany Lang is fairly successful author who has been much less successful in her love life. Her major feature appears to be her awkward personality (part of which is an alarming inclination towards internally talking to dead poets) and pretty much nothing [...]

A really enjoyable read. I wasn't expecting much more than a simple romance but the book pleasantly surprised me. Beth's awkwardness could have been irritating if it wasn't for the fact I'm absolutely the same way, so I could forgive that. I'll look forward to more books by this writer.

The basic idea for the book is really good. Some of the dynamic was lacking. The characters are well developed, but I found it difficult to read how uncommunicative they were about feelings. Although they expressed themselves very well with sex.

I really enjoyed this book. In saying that, I completely understand the mixed reviews. Beth is a frustrating and endearing narrator. At times I wanted to throttle her, however I was also charmed and could relate to her inner voice. Also, she's kind of a dork and I kind of liked that. Bryant is a fantastic writer - I thoroughly enjoyed her characters and found both Beth and Ali well fleshed out (admirable, given that this is written in the first person). I love self-aware characters who question [...]

Jolt is a nice romance story, but rather dull and monotonous. It doesn't go in depth with a summer camp life, or with a famous country singer experiences, or even with a mystery writer struggles with a new novel.

This is a first book and has some first book problems with the execution, but I'm willing to forgive it everything because I just loved it so, so much. This was well worth paying full price, and I'll be coming back to this as a comfort read later.

This is my second book by this author, though it's her first published book. I'm apparently doing things backwards. This book involves a woman of around 30 (Bethany Lange) who is a successful author, in some way introverted (she makes conflicting comments about how she is and isn't), and the main point of view. Sorry, I meant to say that as the point of view. She's also the sole child of her parents, and an idea is conveyed that she has some family money. The book also involves, less so, a woman o [...]

I like Kris Bryant's "Taste" better. Most likely because Taste was less "angsty" than this book. But still a very good read.

This is a magnificent love story. Two women hurt by their previous lovers and each in their own way trying to make sense out of life and times. When they meet at a gay and lesbian friendly summer camp, they both feel as if lightening has struck. This is so beautifully involving, I have already reread it twice. Amazing!Bethany Lang is a successful, professional writer of novels. She is also still hurting from a breakup with her girlfriend from almost three years ago. She has been emotionally shut [...]

This is a romance. It has tension, it has characters who were once hurt finding love, it has a really believable relationship. As a reader, I cared about the characters and what they were going through, wanted to hit them when they made stupid choices, and cheered for them when they made good choices. Beth and Ali were well drawn, and the supporting characters, while they didn't spend much time on-screen, were nicely supporting. That said, this is a romance. You know how some authors make up a st [...]

This was hard to rate for me. I enjoyed the first third quite a bit. It was well written and engaging. The characters were likable enough. Then as it progressed it began to rely on very contrived conflict to keep going, rather than developing a plot. Plus, the first person narration was inconsistent in character, to the point that sometimes I found Bethany delightfully quirky and other times completely immature and hard to like. It was well written enough that I'd like to see what else the autho [...]

This was an enjoyable book. The storyline was cute and easy to follow. The characters were developed. Bethany as the narrator lends a quirky and awkward take on the story. The whole idea of love finding you no matter how hard you try to avoid it is always a good one. Especially when the relationship begins as a friendship. Good showing for a first book by Bryant.

This is an easy, smooth-flowing romance. Written in first person, Bethany guides us through her attraction to Ali Hart. There is is a nice tension and chemistry that builds up between Ali and Beth. I found Beth an easy character to relate to and enjoyed her internal dialogue.I've become a fan of Kris Bryant and look forward to reading more of her work.

I'd give this book 3 1/2 stars. There are some vague spoilers for this story contained in this review.I liked this story, it's a sweet romance. The leads spend a lot of time together, even though they're in a long distance relationship, and get to know each other in a slow, even old-fashioned way, which made for a nice change of pace. As it's told in first person (and in present tense which isn't a favourite of mine) from Beth's POV, it's harder to get a grasp on Ali, and Beth's introspection do [...]

I got an advance copy from NetGalley for an honest review. This story was told entirely in Beth’s point of view. This is the second author I’ve come across who’s done this and I think it’s really interesting. Not only was this book well written but I was hooked from the first page. Beth is an author who writes murder mysterious and works at a camp for kids who have gay parents every summer called Camp Jacomo. She’s sweet, shy, has imaginary friends and thinks entirely too much. Ali is [...]

When Ali and Beth first meet, we know from the electricity in the air that this will not be a typical friendship. At first, Beth has to avoid Ali because she feels so strongly about her. As they discover more about each other, they realize they have more in common than they first realized. A combination of romance and a sweet love story make this book relatable and enjoyable. In some places, I found the story to lag a little, but as a whole, I thought it was pretty good. It was a well-written, q [...]

Jolt is written in the first person perspective making it very easy to feel as if you are part of the story, I found myself talking to the main character Beth, wanting to give her advice and encouragement though out book. It's a very sweet romantic story. It also highlights the reality of relationships so most people can relate to the main character. The book keeps you excited for the possibilities until the very end. I very much enjoyed the book and would love to hear more about the characters [...]

I'd give this book a 4.5 out of 5. It's a story of finding love and trying to keep it. We all have been there, done that. Told in first person, we are inside Bethany's head the entire journey. I like the way the author makes Bethany "real" and I'm right there with her feeling her anxiety, nervousness, excitement, anger, etc. It's also has great sex and a lot of it - to be expected at the beginning of a new relationship. I'd recommend it.

Amazing book. Amazingly written and just in a way very loving. I love the instant connection between both women and after being hurt and cheated on, to finally taking a chance to fall in love with someone so unexpectedly again. Its a loving book.
