Pitch Black is the second book I have read in this series and, despite my lack of interest for sports do I like the series. And, I think that the books, despite being part of a series, are easy to get into even if you haven't read the previous books. This book would probably have been a lot more fun to read if I had liked football. But, sports of any kind is just not my thing. Fortunately, the case is interesting enough, even if I have to admit that I sometimes struggled with the story, especiall [...]

I must admit this book sat on my shelves for a time as I'm not a lover of football. However, I am a fan of Alex Gray, and this book did not disappoint me. This was a cracking good mystery and, although I'm quite good at spotting the murderer, I didn't guess this one and it was a complete surprise. But then, that's what you want from a good detective story. So, on balance, apart from the football I would readily recommend this book.

I have been reading Alex Gray's series featuring Chief Inspector Lorimer, and the novelshave always been very satisfying. Reading these mysteries is like visiting friends. Lorimer'swife Maggie. And forensic Rosie Fergasson and Solly Brightmanpsychologist.PITCH BLACK involves all "my friends"---and a new find Chancer the ginger cat.Three murders----A scottish football team called KELVIN FC.And one of the murders was caused by abusive attacks on a woman who could not take it anymore.Did she kill he [...]

Excellent mystery set around a football club in Glasgow. The football club is the work of fiction, but the author captures the world of football extremely well.

Alex Gray has yet done it again with this book. She has become one of my favorite mystery deactive writers. I am fan of football and mystery and she did a great job with this book. I really enjoyed reading this story. It was written well and kept me guessing with the who done it. But by the end I did figure out who had done it. I like a mystery that keeps me on my toes and this one sure did. The characters were all good. A job well done and highly recommend to mystery and dective readers. I r [...]

I recently read THE RIVERMAN by Alex Gray and loved it giving it a 5 star review. So when I had the opportunity to read the next book in this series, I jumped at it. However, I was a bit leery, as I always am when I read a 2nd book by the same author, will it be as good or better? The answerS.g on the next book!!!Even though this is the 5th book in the series, it reads easily as a stand alone.DCI Bill Lorimer is back and this time is investigating the murders of Kelvin Football (soccer) Organiza [...]

Like I already said in a status update, I liked the book when regarding it as a detective novel. The contents was just too much football to me. A person who doesn't like that game all too much and who doesn't really understand the depth f the feelings towards a particular club or team. The part with wich the book started, the battered female wo did / did not kill her husband was, in my opinion, underrated. It was the teaser that kept me reading at firstand it kind of made me sad that this line wa [...]

Kelvin FC relegated from the Scottish Premier League have just signed two new players and are full of hope for the new season, however even before their first match tragedy strikes the club. Being set in the west-end of Glasgow, familiar turf for me, only increased my enjoyment of this who-dunnit by Alex Gray. However I was fairly sure who had dunnit by the half way mark, but the unravelling of the story and sub-plots made it worthwhile.

I am a football fan, and I am most definitely a fan of Alex Gray! This book is really amazing and there are times that I would just stare nowhere, trying to sink in my brain WHAT HAD JUST HAPPENED. I wasn't able to put this book down and was scolded by my mom once (or maybe twice) for not doing chores and instead read this! It's just AWESOOOOOME!!!So, anyway, DCI Lorimer is now my fictional husband! (Oops, sorry Maggie!)Anyhow, this book is highly recommended and I LOVE YOU ALEX GRAY OMGGG

A DCI Lorimer mystery. Several players for the Kelvin FC (football club) in Glasgow, and a referee at one of the Kelvin at-home games have been murdered. An enjoyable enough light read even given that soccer is not something that either of us have any interest in. I read this one aloud to Maggee.

This was an interesting and suspenseful story that kept me guessing to the very end. A murder of a footballer kicks off this mystery and then it seems as if the club is cursed as other murders occur in connection to the club. The truth about the real motives are slowly revealed but this whodunit has its share of red herrings and surprises. A very enjoyable read.

3.5 I am reading Alex Gray ' s books in order. So far this is my least favourite although I still thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm not a massive football fan so for me I was not so interested in the overall theme. However I continue to love the main characters in this book and enjoy all the underlying story lines and really excited to read the next book

It's a pretty safe bet that I'm going to love a well-written mystery with engaging characters but it's a slam dunk for me -- to mix sports metaphors -- when the story is all about the goings-on at a Scottish football club! Excellent read.

It was an easy read, and I liked Lorrimer and his wife. I gather he has written others so I guess the other characters provide a flow from one book to the next, but there were some plot lines that never seemed to go anywhere.

I picked this up because it was about football and set in Glasgow. An error. I found it packed with cliches and quite dull overall, although at least the policeman isn't an alcoholic.
