3.5 cat stars!I bought this book based on the cover. I mean, look at it! A total badass cat has a choke collar on, a match hanging out of his mouth and he’s playing pool. Oh yeah, he has the same name as me so it was a given that I would read this.Thank you my dear Orient for sending me the recommendation!Ginger, an immoral orange cat becomes friends with an adorable kitten named Sparky. Ginger has a funny Cockney accent as well. "He finks oohmans are no good." :)But he finds a way to scam his [...]

I SEE A CARTOON SERIES COMING Roll over Garfield there's a new orange fat cat that is gunning for your turf:I read the original version of this book a while ago to my son when he was eight. It was on Authonomy way back then, and was my son's steadfast favourite from that site. So, I was extremely happy to see it get published, because it's a fantastic read. It follows the adventures of Ginger and his small mate Sparky, with great British humour, the fantastic dialogue adding to this.In relation [...]

Ginger the Gangster Cat is such a fun and fast read! I must say I haven’t had a good laugh for a while, and Joe Kovacs’ Ginger made me laugh out loud on numerous occasions as I was reading about Ginger and Sparky’s adventures. If you are a cat lover, this book is for you! Sparkling humour, great cat dialogue, and nasty oomans is only part of the fun there is in this book! I’m definitely not going to spoil all the fun for those who haven’t yet got to it, by telling the rest. Just read t [...]

This charming little story about a fat, rough-talking cat and his terribly sweet side-kick is as funny as it is unlikely, and it is very unlikely. Though written for children, like the best children's fiction it has a deeper theme for adults to enjoy and, in this case, ponder on. The unlikely parts are the idea that a cat could actually get himself from England to Barcelona and back with an illegal immigrant in tow, and that another cat could write by holding a piece of chalk in his mouth. The a [...]

Great fun for kids and adults alikeI read this as a bedtime story to my two sprogs (aged 9 and 10). They both loved it. And I did, too, and found myself waiting impatiently for bedtime so I could get on with the next instalment. It’s a funny, naughty and lovable story about a cat that thinks it’s a gangster – but is actually too charming and considerate to be really bad. And cute little Sparky, the most lovable kitten in the world, with a secret talent. Ginger takes Sparky under his fat, g [...]

Ginger is my guilty pleasure. This is a book meant for children but I have this awful weakness for bad-ass characters and I love Ginger as a gangster and a buddhist.Let's put Ginger into the literary tradition of the anti-hero. We have one in African literature, the man-spider who I so loved in my childhood. He was always up to no good, thoroughly selfish and ruthless, but it was such fun. And so is Ginger.Ginger invades the home of innocent Sparky and owners. My novel A Relative Invasion is abo [...]

Hilarious. I bought this book based on the nothing more than that cover and it was worth it. Ginger, an amoral orange cat with a thick cockney accent scams his way into the home of a Brit couple and their adorable yet wimpy kitten, Sparky. From that beginning the book launches into a series of episodes of Ginger and Sparky's adventures. The book was just about as funny as the cover. Urban cat tales were mixed with stories of exotic past lives until the two themes blended at the end. Ginger's pers [...]

This is a superbly written story about the adventures of the wily Ginger and the clever but rather naive Sparky. I rather imagined Ginger to be speaking in a Ray Winstone voice! He has a tough reputation to maintain ‘I’m just one big ugly meanie – always have been – and all the other cats round here take one look at me and leg it. They don’t appreciate my more sensitive side’ However the toughness is actually a bit of a facade. Ginger manages to convince Sparky to go with him to Barc [...]

“Ginger the Gangster Cat” is a book for children at any age and why not anyone who likes reading and having fun. This very good story was written by Frank Kusy, aspiring Buddhist and incorrigible cat lover. The story is very entertaining and my niece and nephew enjoyed it from beginning to end, and keep on asking me to read it to them again. The full color cover is also a good point; children get fascinated by it at first sight. It is not only a child story but it also has humor in it; childre [...]

not my fav Kusy bookNot really sure who the intended audience is. I have read many Kusy travel memoirs and am a cat lover, but this book isn't great. I kept reading thinking it could only get betterbut was ultimately disappointed. Has plot holes as he invents new skills or inserts new characters to get around difficulties, but it all is a bit random. Could be developed more. I felt like the ending was rushed and perhaps Kusy gave up on it and just ended it to be done already.

Ginger the Gangster Cat is a children's book, but I'm 50 and I loved it!Ginger is off on a new mission to stock up on genuine Spanish tapas from Barcelona. The lengths he goes to secure his goal are amazing; from hoodwinking his feline friend Sparky, to manipulating his adopted owner, Frank and inveigling a hapless van driver to smuggle them there.A wonderful children's story, well written and a plot exquisitely executed.

Frank Kusy has put together a delightful tale of Ginger, a cat with a hard exterior and a soft centre, and his little friend, Sparky. This beautifully sweet and humorous tale will bring any cat-lover many a chuckle and leave them with a warm and fuzzy (or should that be furry?) feeling. Loved it!
