2 I didn't really like it stars There will be So Many Major SpoilersPlease don't read my review if you don't like spoilers because I'm about to tell the reasons this book didn't work for me and it will have major spoilers in it. Sorry I tried really I did. But this was just not for me. The writing was good which is why I gave it 2 stars instead of 1, but I really didn't like this book at all. I didn't like that fact that it was a kind of love triangle. I didn't really like the hero or the heroin [...]

I found this book to be so boring. I remember looking at the bottom of my kindle and I was only at the 40% mark thinking - omg I'm not even halfway done. I always lean towards hockey books and this being a new series and a new to me author, I wanted to try it. We don't get much hockey action at all, although the series is called "Off the Ice" so I assumed we wouldn't get much ice time.Sofia is new is Helsinki on a work-swap program. Her grandmother lives in Helsinki and Sofia visited through mos [...]

Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews Sep 19, 2020 - 19:40 PM
Slick's review posted at Guilty Pleasures Book ReviewsI usually write my reviews as soon as I finish a book but in this case, I had to let this book marinate and digest a day before I could sit down and give my opinion. I finished this book and my biggest issue was the creepy antagonist and his slutty sidekick didn't get their due and so that made me feel like something was missing in this story and yes, I realize they were not the focus of this book yet because their actions were never dealt wi [...]

3.5 stars!Heat It Up was the first book I've read by this author. It was such a sweet, heart-felt read. I went in totally blind and loved that I did. I honestly signed up to read and review based off the cover alone. This is why covers are so important. I took a chance on a new to me author without reading a single review, or even the blurb. The cover sold me. Heat It Up starts off with Sofia cleaning urinalss you read that right. Cleaning urinals. She landed a position doing what she thought wa [...]

rounding up to 4 starsHeat It Up is a quick, easy and enjoyable read. It follows the story of Kyle and Sofia. Sofia has had the worst luck; not only in men, but in life. Looking for a change of scenery, Sofia jumps at the chance for a work-exchange program in Finland. However, instead of getting job experience like she was anticipating, she ends up having to scrub toilets….Kyle is sexy and on top of his game. That is until an accident killed his wife and left him injured. Now, he’s back in F [...]

My review cross-posted from Wit and Sin: witandsin/2016/06Heat it Up is a story I wanted to like a lot more than I did. This first installment of Stina Lindenblatt’s Off the Ice series had a lot of potential, but ultimately ranged from cute (if forgettable) to frustrating.I’m a sucker for a hockey player hero, and even though Kyle is ex-NHL and there wasn’t a lot of ice action, he was the strongest part of the story for me. He’s a widower who married young then lost his wife in a car acc [...]

Any Hockey Romance - I'm definitely on board with and I wasn't disappointed with Heat It Up. This was my first novel by this author and I will definitely be reading more of her books in the future. Kyle has ran to Finland to escape some pretty big demons in his past. A former NHL player who has been sidelined by an accident - finds himself teach hockey to an elite group of 15 year old players in Finland while he try's to drown his self in parties, alcohol and one night stands. But that all seems [...]

Reviewed for herding cats & burning soup.A Summer in Finland! Who in their right mind would turn down that offer? For Kyle and Sofia it was a no-brainer. Especially seeing as they'd each found themselves at a turning point in their lives--trying to move on from tragedy and heartbreak and just needing to kick off something fresh and new. And so they each found themselves in Finland--Kyle coaching at a hockey camp for kids and Sofia on a work study program and visiting her grandmother. A chanc [...]

3.5-4 StarsI really enjoyed this book. I loved how the author gave us a tour of Finland and a peek into Finland’s culture. If you like your hero sexy, nerdy and broken, then this may be the story for you. Not only had Kyle lost his first and only love, his wife, in a horrible accident by a drunk driver, but the accident took away his NHL career because of his injuries. He has wallowed in self-pity and self-destructive behavior, as many people do in the time of extreme loss. He felt getting awa [...]

ok – now I have to face the music you know that feeling when someone asks you to read a book that is about a genre you either know nothing about? Or you have only read like one book about it before that you did NOT like ? and I mean REALLY TOTALLY NOT LIKE??In my case I knew I liked the author before when I read another book from her but well still was still doubting about the genre (yeah it was THAT bad with that other book) Than you think – OK – lets take a look at the Blurb – because [...]

I had mixed feelings about this book and since this is the first book I have read by this author I wasn't sure what exactly expect but at times I found myself putting this down to start another book in hopes when I came back to this one I would feel differently. If you read the blurb you know this story tackles the subject of cheating and basically trust issues. So Sofia is in Finland on a work exchange program for the summer. She wants to be a sports therapist but she ends up cleaning toilets i [...]

Heat It Up by Stina Lindenblatt is a sweet with just the right amount of heat holiday romance. Who doesn't love a summer romance and that's what we get in setting of Finland. Sofia Phillips feels stuck in her life and when the opportunity of a work study in Finland comes up why not visit her grandmother for the summer. Sophia has lost her trust in men. Heat It Up was added to my Netgalley approved list a couple of months ago, even though I hadn't actually requested it! Always happy to give any book a go though :-) When I first started Heat It Up I wasn't quite sure what I was going to make of it, but I have to say that I have enjoyed getting to know Sophia and Kyle. Set in Finland, somewhere I have never been to but would like to visit one day (I have two friends there who were originally pen-pals), Sophia is on a summer work-exchange program [...]

This is the first book by author that I have read and I was really drawn in by both the amazingly sexy cover and the blurb. While I couldn't stop reading this book, there were characters and situations that absolutely drove me nuts! We have Kyle, who played professional hockey until a tragic accident kills his wife and he is left horribly injured. On the other hand, we have Sophia who is done with dating after she catches her boyfriend cheating on her. She then runs away to Finland for a summer [...]

Full of fun highs and dramatic lows Sofia and Kyle had a long road to a HEA and I really enjoyed reading it all.The best part of this book was that the author placed it in Finland which it is clear from her writing is somewhere near and dear to her heart. Loved this great New Adult romance story! The characters, Sofia and Kyle, are both dealing with loss and heartache. They are both trying to move on and looking for a fresh start and new direction in their lives. Can two people who have sworn off love manage to overcome their barriers and let each other in? You will be anxiously turning pages to find out! Definitely recommend.*ARC received from Net Galley in exchange for a honest review

I loved learning about Finland. I enjoy traveling and hockey. This author had such wonderful characters with a story based on two young Americans who find each other in a hilarious way. They do a lot of Finnish sightseeing and meet and make Finnish friends. They are growing as well with some difficulties along the way with a twist of fate some of you (but not me) will see coming. A nice read!!!

I think this is my first New Adult book??? I don't even know. What technically is the distinction between contemporary and new adult? I don't know, but this book is both! :) The perspective of the story is told in a dual narrative, with Sofia and Kyle each narrating alternating chapters. The book opens with Sofia's narration and ends with Kyle's narration. I loved both of their inner voices. Sofia's was at times strong and confident, like in the beginning, and wavered and was doubting during ti [...]

Both finding themselves in Finland because of complications in their pasts, Kyle and Sofia sure heat it up, but problems worm their way into their relationship. The beginning was engaging and pulled me in, and the book had an overall amazing flow. Also, I can't recall reading any other book with this setting. I look forward to reading more from Lindenblatt.
