30 years ago little Mandy Miller, three years old, disappeared without a trace from the village Hallow's End. Her family and the village never really got over the disappearing. Elaine Ellis arrives at the village to scatter her mother ashes. Elaine's mother grew up in Hallow's End, but Elaine has never been there and little does she know how her arrival will affect the town.I can honestly say that I had the story figured out around 27% and my theories came through. But, I still enjoyed the story [...]

This was a really cleverly written book. How things that were never settled can resurface and come back to haunt you.A child goes missing, no one knows where, body never found, just a jumper. A jumper stained with blood. The place it was found belonged to a man with some sort of learning disability, did he do it?Its a small village and tittle tattle is riff. Even if its 30 yrs past. There are some red herrings along the way which I did miss. Highly recommended.Thank you to Carina UK via Net Galle [...]

Elaine has come to Hallow's End, with the intention of spreading her mother's ashes in a garden of the community she grew up in. She soon finds herself embroiled with a seventeen year old and a old mystery. What did happen to Mandy when she disappeared at the age of three, and who is responsible for her disappearance. The answers will change Elaine's life in many ways.A good mystery, with interesting characters. I loved the character of Brody, she was the most fully developed and I liked her sar [...]

Fourth book of my holiday reads. Really enjoyed this book, full of mystery and suspense.I have to admit I did work something out about the main character Elaine quite early on but there were still plenty of twists and turns that weren't expected. Brodie I loved. A typical hormonal teenager but for me she is the stand out character in this book and shows an incredible strength for one so young. She certainly makes her mark in everyone's lives that she comes across. Great read and highly recommend [...]

Primarily a novel of suspense and mystery. There is a gentler romantic element and a touch of paranormal. This is a story of dysfunctional families and how the actions from the past have impacted on the present day. I liked the characters, even the secondary ones in this story. Like another reviewer I did have an inkling early on in the novel how the story would turn out but it didn't lessen the level of enjoyment. My only gripe was the paranormal element, I couldn't really see the point of it w [...]

(review copy)Posted in full reviewedthebook/2015 The Lost Child is an exciting and fascinating novel which is difficult to be defined by genre, but it does present the reader with a mystery that will have you rapidly turning the pages to discover more. I’m becoming more and more of a cover fiend as late and The Lost Child’s cover is stunning but I also learnt that from the first time I read that blurb, it hadn’t let me go and I just had to read this book at some point in the near future. I started lost child early Sunday morning at 5.30 and by 9am I was very happy for two reasons firstly I could not get into any book since reading two brilliant books back to back so was in a bit of a reading slump that lasted a few days and the Lost child brought me out of this slump and made me see the sunlight again with other books. The second reason was that I was happy I was on this books blog tour as everyone who loves a mystery needs to read this book and shout about it afterwards. The best [...]

The Lost Child by Ann Troup is a book that I liked but didn't love and I really can't my finger on why. It starts off so good, building mood and tension and then came the big revealless that half way through and from there, the book just lost steam for me.Mandy Miller disappeared from Hallow's End when she was only 3 years old and all that was left behind was a bloody sweater. Thirty years have passed and Elaine Ellis is coming to Hallow's End to scatter the ashes of her mother who left Hallow's [...]

A three year old child, Mandy Miller, disappears from Hallow's End never to to be found. Years later Elaine Ellis returns bringing her mother's ashes to scatter in Hallow's End. She finds herself involved in the mysteries and secrets that this town holds. I was concerned when one of the biggest secrets is revealed very early, but was pleasantly surprised that there were plenty more secrets and surprises to come. This book definitely has more than it's share of family secrets. I loved the charact [...]

Thank you to NetGalley for sending me this book in return for my honest review. The idea on which this book is based is by no means a new one: a child disappears, is presumed dead, but then unexpectedly returns many years later. However, Ann Troup presents a thoroughly refreshing view on the original concept.Troup’s writing flows in such a way that it is a delightfully easy-to-read story. Her writing has a comfort and ease to it that I found thoroughly enjoyable, making me finish the book much [...]

It feels a bit odd, I worked out what the main mystery was within the first 10% of the book, or at least I had a very strong feeling. I then had to stop as my lunch break was over, and when I came back to the book that evening, despite reading on purely to see that my hunch was correct, and then seeing what other twists and turns the story may take, I did read the rest of the book in one sitting in a little over 3 hours. The fact that I did that while not being sure how much I was enjoying, or e [...]

This started really well for me. I like the premise, I liked the main character, I was intrigued enough to not be too bothered by the slightly passive narrative and to keep turning pages. And then about half way through the mystery was solved (or at least a chunk of it) - and the pace simply slowed, and that's when the narrative style started to get to me. Don't get me wrong, this was a really good story and there was still lots to unveil in the second part of the book, but without the suspense [...]

This pacey, character driven story concerns the mystery of a lost child almost thirty years ago, and it was a remarkably good read. It begins with Elaine Ellis selecting the most agreeable final resting place for her recently deceased mother. This, you would think, would be a respectable, somewhat sombre affair. But Elaine, and the vessel containing the late Jean Ellis, experience misfortunes faltering between comedic and tragic. Soon after the fairly unceremonial scattering, her mother’s loss [...]
