Headline Murder is a rather fun and well written cozy mystery set in 1960s Brighton It is a lot lighter, than the usual dark gritty crime I am drawn to I really enjoyed losing myself in the past, with the familiarity of Brighton and a cracking mystery.Colin Crampton is a reporter on one of the local newspapers in Brighton He is a dedicated newsman ready to follow any juicy crime story He has an off beat Aussie girlfriend He is soon on the case of the missing crazy golf owner and looking into the [...]

Like the style of writing immediately Love his delivery of humor.Had to check about cappuccino in Brighton to see when they started to have this kind of drink since I didn t know about it until not too long ago.Didn t know that even then even a reporter has to produce Just like a salesman having to make their number Plus they have to compete with reporters from other papers I like the trip to the morgue Not too long ago we still had to clip the news pieces Like the way the zits express their fee [...]

I would like to thank Peter Bartram for my free copy of his novella The book was short and sweet, an easy read It was fast paced, but perhaps too fast as I felt hyperactive and it did not give me time to warm up to the characters As a French Canadian, I also had some difficulty with some of the British terms.

I love the way Peter Bartram writes His humour in difficult situations with just the right amount of description of what s occurring has a perfect balance Headline Murder is the second Crampton of the Chronicle mystery I ve read and now I m eager to read the next instalment.I ve never been to Brighton but I feel I know the streets and the lanes like my home town and have a vivid picture of Prinny s Pleasure and it s delectable food offerings.Working one step ahead of the police on this investiga [...]

I thoroughly enjoyed this newspaper caper set in the early 1960 s.In search of the next big story for the Evening Chronicle crime reporter, Colin Crampton, is running out of ideas fast, as anything worthy of front page news has all but dried up in Brighton Short of committing offences himself he s not going to conjure up the sort of copy that is demanded by the news editor, Frank Figgis. With things looking grim he receives a nod toward a crazy golf course No, not to pass the time A local busines [...]

Headline Murder by Peter Bartram was a first read giveawayThe book is set in 1960s Brighton The main character, Colin Crampton is the crime writer for the local paper except there is not much crime at the moment, and he is desperate for a headline story The seafront crazy golf proprietor, Arnold Trump, goes missing is there a story there He sees a possible link to an unsolved murder, and dodgy property deals and sets off in pursuit Colin is a very likable and plausible character, who follows the [...]

Headline Murder is a fun read with humour throughout a literary version of Heartbeat but with a journalist lead, Brighton setting and laughs.Colin Crampton is our first person narrator, a crime correspondent for the Brighton Evening Chronicle It s 1962 the swinging sixties and there s been a dearth of hard crime news lately So much so, news editor Frank Figgis is letting Crampton know that it s about time some proper crime story reaches the front page, after all crime sells papers.Needing a hea [...]

Here s a whodunit tale that will keep you interested and guessing until the final page The main character Colin Crampton is a journalist in the 1960s at a newspaper in Brighton, UK Crampton navigates the newsroom stresses and politics like any curious, hard working journalist and at the same time starts to unravel a mystery that takes him on unexpected, and a bit dangerous, adventures.I enjoyed this book for the way it kept me intrigued about what would happen with Crampton next I also liked the [...]

The publication of BRIGHTON ROCK in 1938 gave Brighton a sleazy reputation it s never quite managed to shake off Who d have thought that a sleepy South Coast resort could be home to a bunch of crooks Well, Graham Greene did for one Fast forward a quarter of a century and Peter Bartram does for another to excellent effect in this pacey and well written crime caper. Its hero is journo turned gumshoe Colin Crampton who spends time at the wheel of his MGB chasing leads than he does at his desk writi [...]

If you like Raymond Chandler you ll like Peter Bartram s novel about slightly crusty and witty investigative journalist, Colin Crampton, who stumbles upon a major crime in his town of Brighton, England Set in the 1960s, Crampton navigates old fashioned typewriters and pay phones while digging deeper into a story that at first appears pretty harmless The nicely woven plot intensifies and offers several surprises as Crampton puts himself in harm s way I especially loved some of the dry humor that [...]

A cracking read that made me want , I hope Peter s next book is double the length The story is believable and the scenery real Sokeham Street Not only that, the baddie is obviously based on a certain local character of the 60s and 70s who is recognisable for anyone who was around Brighton and Hove in those days.
