I gave first volume 5 stars more for potential and interesting premise than current quality but it's not living up to it.Not really bad but story hasn't griped me yet and I don't care for any of the characters. That being said I do plan to continue the series since I still believe it can shape up to be really good.

This series is absolutely fantastic. Great art and coloring. Amazing story. I can't wait to see where it's headed. Mikey and Brennan continue their hunt for the wizards from Terranos, and we learn some more of the secrets Mikey is keeping.

This was a bit a of whirlwind. It seemed like I flew through it, but I didn't get much substance if that makes sense. I loved what we got, but I think it just continued story lines from the first volume without much else going on. I do love seeing the parents storyline, and I hope it becomes a bigger part as the series goes along. I'm invested for sure, so we'll see what comes with the third volume!

Man oh man, it's hard to find someone to root for in this series. Everyone seems like a dick. Everyone who is "good" has some evil plotting behind them. The glimpses into the past, about Mikey growing up, is real interesting. I also still love the art, I think it's solid as hell. However the story feels all over the place. One second they're heading out to hunt. Next they're near a small town. The brothers together feel "okay" I never feel the real love of brothers there. The parents, which were [...]

The second volume doesn't feel as strong as the first, but it's still a rollicking story, I want to know where it's going from here. Have I figured out a very important, later story twist? Probably. Still will be fun to watch it unfold (and the art is magnificent fun).

While still readable and fairly-enjoyable, this second volume is considerably weaker and less intriguing than the first. What started as an interesting twist on the fantasy genre has become more of a by-the-numbers (and convoluted) mess, with little new information gained or growth for the characters.A dejected 3-stars for this; here's hoping the title turns back around for Volume 3!

Nowhere near as revolutionary and exciting as the first volume; in fact, a little predictable, especially as the volume moved on. The artwork is still amazing however, and that's more than worth sticking around for. Hopefully the story moves into more dangerous territory rather than sticking with the usual fantasy tropes, especially considering it's a series that tries to turn the usual tropes on their collective head.

Fantasy series aren't usually my thing, but the first volume of Birthright drew me in with it's engaging story and superb artwork. Unfortunately, Call To Adventure loses some of that momentum with a slightly disappointing follow-up. The characterisation is still strong, but the excitement of Homecoming just isn't there.Andrei Bressan and Adriano Lucas are still an incredible art team. Writer Joshua Williamson could script someone walking from A to B and the artists would still work wonders with [...]

An amazing follow up collection to the first volume. Any Fantasy lover should really check out this series. Williamson's story of a boy, now man, being stuck in a mystical world, encountering surreal, and often frighteningly demonic creatures while wielding incredible sorcerous powers is a pure adrenaline rush here. All the while, his family searches for a lost son through the investigation of his written journals. Williamson's pacing is perfect and incredibly riveting. The artwork by Bressan is [...]

Another perfect issue of Birthright!! Another dang cliffhanger ending that makes me SO ANXIOUS for the next issue!!!! Merged review:I'm not even kidding or exaggerating. This is THE BEST comic book on the stands right now!!!!!Merged review:After a 2 month break, I could not wait for this book!! This issue drags you right back into the story so well that you feel like part of it. There are still so many questions and I'm still not sure who to be rooting for, a fact that would normally infuriate m [...]

This is a fantasy comic series, so naturally I love it. The back-and-forth storytelling keeps me completed invested, and I can't wait to see the mystery unravel in future volumes. Even though the art isn't necessarily my favorite style, the action sequences are so on point. I also appreciate the sibling relationship dynamic that was present in this particular volume, and hope to see more of it in the next installment.

Its like Locke & Key on steroids. Also, this is finally a graphic novel that displays interesting alien fantasy creatures. As opposed to mundane background monsters with no visual swag. No more issues currently out. I am disappoint. Good recommend there booooogieMerged review:This issue gave me some Y: The Last Man vibes with a Saga type surprise ending Good stuff.

I love this series! It's like Conan meets Dungeons & Dragons. It left a hell of a cliffhanger at the end of the book, and it's so making me look forward to reading volume 3 when it finally comes out!

After the first volume, I wouldn't have gone out and searched for this, but since I had already gotten it, I read it, in one train ride (~30 minutes). It's a real quick read, and there's some fun strands of plot coming together -- Mikey's mom coming around to empathizing with him and then discovering his pregnant, fantasy-world mate promises a lot, not least of which is more role for female characters. But I'm not seeing a lot to drag me on right now, as compared to some of the truly outstanding [...]

More great art and great story. It continues with finding out more about Lore, Mikey and how he went down the path of corruption, and the possibility of Brennan becoming like his little brother. And then the pregnant wife with wings shows up.

A nice follow up to the previous volume. The artwork is perhaps even more terrific than the previous volume. It’s eye popping and clearly going to be the highlight of this series. The story continues here and we see the characters grow and learn of their backstories.

Joshua Williamson and Andrei Bressan continue to be full of surprises in this fun, emotional, action-packed, and original story. The world-building and storytelling continue to impress, and it seems we are getting closer and closer to discovering just who Lore is, why Mikey sold his soul to this being, and whether Mikey is a force for good or for evil. In this volume, Mikey's older brother, though younger in appearance due to Mikey's having aged in the other world, develops his own strength as w [...]

This review is for the first four trade volumes It doesn’t take a lot for me to be into an alternate universe tale, and this one is unique and cool in which a missing child returns a year later, but a) as an adult b) who is effectively the conquering warrior of another realm. Of course, there’s a lot more to it with that, including evil corruption and a “primary” world unable to understand or control him. The subplots about family and loyalty and such give the story the emotional weight [...]

3.5 StarsThe adventure of Mikey and Brennan continues, but this time, the land of Terrenos makes itself known to them both as it alters some of our world. As seen in the previous Volume, Mikey is still dealing with the corrupt bargain he made with the evil Lore and he has begun to search for blades to help them in the their quest. Mikey and Brennan face off against some persuasive Terrenos spirits and Brennan reveals there is more to him than you'd see on first glance.Enter Rya, a winged human-l [...]

I pretty much said it all in the review of Vol. 1 but I have to continue with the praise. This book is very original, the world of Terrenos is original, but also the way Williamson integrates the our world with Terrenos is original and cool. Love this series and it has made me a fan of Williamson's writing.

I'm sorry I recommended the first volume to anyone. What was an interesting character driven story with plot twists and grounded fantasy has turned into a contrived fantasy mess. The fantasy 'rules' are explained seconds before they are enacted in the story. There's no character development in this second volume.

While the intention of Mikey Rhodes is seemingly clear (to the readers), it looks like another member of the Rhodes family carries an unknown secret as well! And Terrenos is gradually spilling over into our world!
