Williams's Robin Hood faces a difficult problem. A former minor noble cruelly forced out of the feudal/manorial system who wants back in, he leads a group of displaced peasants who want to tear the system apart. The difference in their vision places him doubly at risk. "The Good Yeomen" makes the hard demands of medieval life very real. This is a highly pragmatic Robin Hood, but not very different from the usual Robin Hood except that he's 14th century rather than 12th century. Little John, the POV character, is the idealistic rebel. He starts out as a resentful village smith who is a bound serf. My only disappointment with this character is that he doesn't get the opportunity to use his smithcraft for the outlaw cause.Tuck is a wonder! He is a radical preacher.
