Her guileless character provides an intriguing contrast to his cynic sophistication. It's a classic concept of an artist falling in love with his subject to the mere point of obsession. Who doesn't want to be a mona lisa? Only Luke made her feel so alive!Sophie didn't like anything about Luke Vittorio--but she fell in love with him just the same.Luke was attractive to women; as a portrait painter there were many in his life. Worse, Sophie suspected he was having an affair with Rosemary, her step [...]

Another classic HP where the H is twice as old as the h. Luke meets Sophie when he almost hits her with his car. She's 19. He's 38. There's instant animosity but Luke marries her and they make each other miserable, except in bed. It's a classic bodice ripper type romance. He's the overbearing, macho, Latin lover and she the sweet innocent. Both characters are immature and annoying. Sophie's age explains her behavior but Luke has no such excuse. And then he slaps her! *eyebrows raised to hairline [...]

What can I say but that this book was pretty stupid. The writing was bad, the story-line was dumb, and the heroine came as a TSTL teenager (which is exactly what she was). It grated on my nerves that she kept calling her step mother that she hated, and thought was having an affair with the hero, "mommy". It felt like she was a 14 year old child. The hero coming out of nowhere asking to marry her because he painted a compromising picture of her was the last straw. Isn't this a contemporary, what [...]

Okay. What is it with Carole Mortimer's heroes. Bunch of idiots!! This is the sixth (?) book I've read by her and they all have these heroes who do things with a wanna-be other woman that ANY SANE PERSON would perceive as indicatice of having a relationship.I don't understand the "dilemma" the heroes feel when they've been careless with their affections and attentions.

luke was obsessed wid sophie! he fell in love at 1st sight n plotted 2 have her. poor sophie was a spoiled brat, guileless of the ways of men and of the rules of flirtation. so she cud not guess the truth abt rosemary and luke or abt luke and his supposed other women. she lacked experience and was painful 2 luke. however, i did not like luke's mean attitude and his being rather brutal at times. he tricked her into marriage!yet instead of working hard at making her love him, he was a brooding alp [...]

Immature heroine (she has an excuse, she's 19), immature hero (no excuse cause he's 38 or so), no one tells anyone anything unless it's insulting. I was compelled to read to the end just to see if they would finally talk to each other. They did, but it was a little too late by then. It felt rushed and unsatisfactory. I wasn't really invested in a happy ending for them because I didn't really like them much - as characters or as a couple. The hero says that he never denied that he was involved wi [...]

"The Flame of Desire" is a exceptional ride full of hidden love, heartbreak, pain and a sensual passion that consumed me,as all books written by Carole does to me."It mattered too much; I dreaded the answer. I—I love you, Luke." She could see the tension in his body. "What did you say? "he grated. Her eyes were swimming with tears. "I love you. I love you!" He took an involuntary step toward her and then stopped. "You are sure?" "Very sure!" "Oh, God, I love you, too!" he groaned, gathering her [...]

An author I have always loved. But I couldn't connect with the book at all, what I couldn't digest was the Hero actually hitting the heroine on the face in anger. That was totally unwarranted.

The heroine was so immature and the hero was a jerk. The final straw was when he slapped her face - how is that romantic??

Everything was a mess! Poor writing and horrible dialogue. Luke was completely unbelievable as a 38 year old manbut then again maybe not.
