Another lovely installment with the beloved characters from A Cricket in Times Square We read this one out of order after rather than before Harry Cat s Pet Puppy , but it didn t matter at all There are some good messages about failure and teamwork and the usual delightful banter among the animals.

Okay for a sleepless night, but why is Tucker suddenly talking like a stereotypical Yiddishe Mousie Why is Harry suddenly calling him Mousiekins ugh all the time And why is the book called Tucker s Countryside when it is obviously Chester s Countryside Yeah, yeah, I knowe it was published nine years after The Cricket in Times Square, which for all its faults had its charms This book tries a bit hard not to mention the change in style as the author constantly interrupts his own narration with asi [...]

This was a sweet story about kids and animals wanting to save a meadow that was slated to be converted into apartment buildings It had some cute and funny moments, and a pretty smart idea in the end, and overall it was a pretty fun read However, what bothered me about it was the use of lying, burglary and forgery as Chester points out to save the meadow The fact that Chester feels guilty about it and voices his concern just draws attention to the wrongfulness of it The whole idea that the ends j [...]

Very cute book with all our favorite characters from The Cricket in Times Square and a few new ones for good measure Tucker Mouse and Harry Cat are summoned to Connecticut to help Chester Cricket save the meadow that he calls home from developers who want to build an apartment complex where the beautiful Old Meadow is located The way Tucker and Co help the meadow inhabitants and the humans across the road to save what they all need is really a fun read My grandsons loved it and now we are going [...]

It s really amazing how George can take the characters from his classic, and write another classic How often does that happen I found it just as enjoyable as the first Even without New York as a back drop, it was interesting and entertaining and I liked how the countryside s problems were important to the characters from the city It was missing something to garner stars, but I can t quite put my finger on it 3 STARS

This book called Tucker s Countryside, by George Selden, is a wonderful book that I really enjoyed reading In this story, the main characters are Tucker the mouse, Harry the cat, Chester the cricket, and Ellen the little girl The minor characters are the little children that Ellen takes to the park, Ellen s mother, the animals in the meadow, and the construction workers In this story, Tucker and Harry travel from the New York to the countryside in Connecticut to help their friend, Chester, solve [...]

Having thoroughly enjoyed Cricket in Times Square , I was delighted to read its sequel Tucker s Countryside It was just that delightful After Chester cricket s accidental visit to NYC, his friends Tucker mouse and Harry cat make the trip to Connecticut to see how life is in a quiet country meadow However there is a crisis brewing as the meadow is scheduled for ruin to make way for buildings Chester cricket and all the meadow animals are worried as to the destruction of their home They are hoping [...]

A charming tale that mutually praises the characteristics of helpfulness and optimism Younger readers will find inspiration in the character of Ellen, who takes it upon herself to save the Old Meadow and affect change in a very grownup way, despite the unlikely odds It s possible, said Mrs Hadley without much hope, but That s all it has to be, said Ellen Just possible As is the norm for stories from this era, the plot has an easy pace that doesn t venture into quick action or heavy dialogue And [...]

A fast pace, wonderfully written, and witty animal story for young readers It may be dated without all the technology that you find in so many books and movies, but that doesn t diminish the charm This was the book that I had read as a child and which had inspired me to be a writer Unfortunately, the story didn t have the same profound effect on me this time around, but no wonder that was around 36 years ago It was still delightful to read Tucker Mouse, temporarily pulling himself from his loved [...]

This is one of those children s books I found on the shelf at the library and tried out I ve plugged the method in my review of Dragon s Blood, and I ll plug it here At least a couple times in your life, find a book to read without the use of a catalog or search engine Just explore the shelves at your local library Let an interesting cover pull your eyes in, and then read the dust jacket You ll find good reads this way that you never would come across any other way As for this book, I read it as [...]

I d say 2 3 4 stars.Paled in comparison to the original, but not completely terrible as a sequel My ten year old son and I read this at bedtime The excitement we had to continue on with these characters after reading the first book just wasn t there at the end of this, so we will stop here Sweet, but a little boring The Cricket in Times Square was just too tough of an act to follow, I believe.

This book is about three animals John Robin Harry Cat and Tucker Mouse trying to help there friend Chester Cricket The problem that arises in this book is that Chester s home is in danger Chester lives in the countryside and the housing developments continue to grow reducing the amount of area the children can play and the amount of space animals and bugs can live.I loved this book manly because it caries this social resonance that we should preserve the lane not bulldoze it It defiantly shows h [...]

THIS BOOK WAS INCREDIBLY CUTE It was such a cute novel, it took me a lot of strength not to rate it 5 stars I loved the writing, even though it was really simple The plot was ok, but perfect for 4th graders I think this was a good sequel to The Cricket in Times Square I cannot wait to read the next books

Loved The Cricket In Times Square when I first read it as a child and was hoping to extend the experience with the sequel hadn t known it existed before However I m afraid watching Over The Hedge spoiled me for Tucker s Countryside The premise of the movie was similar enough that I am constantly reminded of the gross animations while trying to enjoy Selden s descriptions One section I am enjoying directly as written is about Harry Cat s turn as an indoor pet.

A good follow up to the 1st book but not as memorable I honestly like Chuck Jones animated sequel A Very Merry Cricket, a lot better, because not only was that cartoon beautifulLike in the animated series Chester s music played a huge role but in this book prepared to be disappointed What kept me entertained was picturing Mel Blanc s brooklynese accent coming from Tucker Mouse The end was very nice and has some aspects of the first book though.

This was a favorite book of mine as a child, which is strange since I uniformly hated books about animals They always end poorly Perhaps why I loved this one everything goes well Reread it today after rereading its prequel Cricket in Times Square and it is just as delightful as I remember A bit simplistic than I thought then, but 30 years have passed so not unexpected Good book to read with children or just for a light, quick smile.

It was so much fun reading my old copies of this series to my kids They still have my name written in them in my childlike handwriting The stories definitely stand the test of time and this one, about trying to prevent the development of a favourite piece of countryside, seems particularly relevant.

As good as the first one No Entertaining Yes The animals are darn clever, which I do appreciate I did not expect the solution of the problem they had, but of course everything works out that s not a spoiler, because obviously everything is going to work out.
