'This is a story of boy meets girl but you should know up front, this is not a love story.'And no it wasn't, it was more than just a story.I loved the movie. I loved the script. I loved Rachel. She's cool.Totally.Tom is our guy who works in a greeting card company, believes that his life will not be truly happy until he meets 'the one'.The girl, Summer, who works in the same office, has different views on love and life. Completely opposite actually.Everything clicks for them. They have many thin [...]

OMGJust finished thsi MOVIE! So BEAUTIFUL! Defiantly a long time since I saw something this good. This movie in 3words -classic -hilarious and touching. :) This movie's plot is basically built around, how a guy fall in love with a girl and thinks that she is 'THE ONE' and how he ultimatly deals with the inevitable heartbreak. I loved Tom Ireally did.His Nativity, his innocence and his want for love made his character so very relatable. He's the rare one in a million guy that believed that in cosmic [...]

I finished reading two works of intense beauty today, and their content couldn't be more different. They left me sad, feeling those hollow places that are always inside me, wondering what could have been if I hadn't experienced an unrequited relationship like Tom Hansen's love for Summer, or if the abuse I'd suffered as a boy had been coupled with a mad mother who kept me always on the edge of chaos.500 Days of Summer and The Lost Episodes of Beatie Scareli are different. They are. But so much of [...]

So this was how I came to find this book. Just yesterday I went to a book fair and it was there basking in the golden light of the side lamps. (500) Days of Summer: The Shooting Script stood there itching to be felt and inspected by me. It was a mighty task I tell you- scrambling to reach the shelf. I'm not tall.So this was like Mount Everest to me. When I finally grabbed the book (now all huffy, puffy and sweaty) I sighed annoyed because it was like a movie guide with the scenes and stuff. Yet [...]

This book was about a girl named Summer, and a boy named Tom. From the first time that Tom lays his eyes on Summer, he knows that he is in love. Throughout the book, Tom realizes that Summer isn't just some "ordinary girl." She's different. The problem that Tom has, is that, Summer doesn't want to be anyone's girlfriend, but from being with Tom, it's like she already is. The challenge that Summer is facing, is that she's not sure if Tom is right for her. During the movie/book, the good days and [...]

The light script follows in on the tradition of RomCom movies, being light and all, BUT what's been different, and what made it a great movie, is that it didn't include the corny scenes and the repeated dialogue. It was original, and as the screen writer mentioned in a follow-up article, it was real, it happened to him. And a huge proof of its originality is that the real Summer didn't recognize that the Summer in the screenplay was actually her. I guess that's what made it a great, well-written [...]

(500) Days of Summer visits an unoriginal, if popular, theme: love in the context of a break-up. Countless scripts have subjected their protagonists through the archetypal woes, resentments, and recoveries associated with botched relationships, and this one is no exception. Tom and Summer are unremarkable characters, interesting enough in their own right, but still rather flat. There is little depth to the stars of the story. Their dynamism over the course of the plot is likewise shallow; it man [...]

Il libro è a tutti gli effetti lo script del film arricchito da approfondimenti e appunti degli sceneggiatori e del regista. Adoro il film e leggere lo script (con alcune scene inedite) offre una visione differente di alcune scene. BEST. MOVIE. EVER.

I was ten when i watched the movie and i guess Tom Hansen's heartbreak over Summer Finn was my first heartbreak. I was moved by the story and the actor's skills. I hated Summer then because for me, he used Tom to get happiness out of what they're doing (perhaps). I thought of Summer as an odd person. Also, lonely. I despised Tom because i thought of him as a weak person. He was a prisoner of love and for me that was just too pathetic.Yes, i probably rolled my eyes then. Eight years later i reali [...]

That's a pretty complex question. Philosophers, poets, scientists, everybody has a theory, don't they? I kinds like what Nietzsche said: "There is always some madness in love, but there is alsoways some reason in madness." Pretty smart. Then again, Nietzsche went crazy from syphillis. So there's that. She's the light that guides me home. Yes it is from one of our cards. No someones else wrote it. Doesn't make it less true.I wouldn't say "the girl of my dreams," no. The girl of my dreams would ha [...]

Sweet, clever film with some lovely performances. The script structure has some moving lines and a good twist on the trad structure. Imho here's why it doesn't hit the heights of Notting Hill or Shakespeare in Love: the main character/ protagonist - Eg the guy - doesn't follow the Aristotelian rules . He does not inspire fear or pity - we know she said she didn't want anything serious so rather than him having a serious tragic flaw , he just seems to be ignoring the facts (yes, I've been there s [...]

Not just in terms of content, this is one of the worst-written screenplays I have ever read.Pretty much everything you're not supposed to do, Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber have included in this script - second and first person, music cues, the passive tense, absolutely unnecessary bits of "action" ("they start talking").Terrible, terrible, terrible.I would include quotes but it gives me a headache just considering re-reading a single page.I only read "500" out of angry curiosity, and the [...]

Tom Hansen is a guy who falls for Summer (who is his boss's assistant) where he works at a greeting card company. Summer is different kind of girl and has a relationship with Tom. However, he falls in "love" with her, while she isn't really into him. Only as "friends", later to hurt him with the engagement of her and her new fiancee. He is hurt and frustrated about Summer, only to become passionate about his desire to become/work as an architect (which he studied for) and then later bump into Su [...]

500 days of summer ;I rate this book 5/5 stars. I recommend this book to young adults, and romance readers. But this book isn't a love story, it's a story about love. Tom is a normal guy, who gawks over Summer like any other male. But Summer is different, she likes the same music as him, finds similar humor, and shares common interests. But after days and says of their romance, it suddenly starts disapeering. Turns out that Summer has a big secret. This story is simply about when boy meets girl. [...]

Using the oft-quoted cliche, this script breaks through cliches and shows a genuine love-heart break tale from a true dreamer. It is a romantic story juxtaposed within a cynical post-modern world, but still leaves you hoping and believing in a more grounded view of love. There is a reason this film has remained one of my favorites. The script is fresh, and finds a great balance of humor and honest drama. I anxiously wait for another film or script like this to come along.

What can I say, I'm a sucker for a creative script, which this is in spades. Playing a narrative of a relationship out of order is something not really very common within film, and it's interesting to see how it plays out on the page compared to the screen, even if one is direction for the other.
