Inspector Witherspoon is Scotland Yard s top detective when it comes to solving messy or strange murders No one really understands how the quiet, unassuming man of inherited wealth went from records file clerk to the leading murder detective with no unsolved crimes in his career They don t realize that unbeknownst to him, that he has an entire crew working behind the scenes to help him find the answers Meet Mrs Jeffries, the inspector s housekeeper and the brains behind his astounding success al [...]

A new discovery for me, a novel from Emily Brightwell s Victorian Murder Mystery A very good read, most enjoyable, I loved the characters, from the kindly Inspector Witherspoon, his loyal housekeeper Mrs Jeffries and a variety of other characters on his team, who help him crack some difficult cases. In this particular case, Inspector Witherspoon is in the frame for murder, and unable unwilling to provide an alibi for the time of the murders, so his loyal and trusty team come to his rescue A great [...]

It drives me nuts that Mrs Jeffries is not correctly depicted on the book covers.Since I don t normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here s the break down of how I rate my books1 star This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.2 stars This book was not very good, and I won t be reading any from the author.3 stars This book was ok, but I won t go out of my way to read , But if I find anothe [...]

I just happened across this for something to listen to in the car and I thought it might help with my missing Downton Abbey Enjoyed the characters and the accents and the setting in England in the Victorian era Now I see this is 8 so when I need a fun filler, I will look for another Mrs Jeffries story.

CozyNo serial killers No terror threats against the country Just a cozy, well written, page turning mystery All Mrs Jeffries books are the same, yet NOT the same Most enjoyable.

An insurance broker has been coshed over the head and strangled in his own office and the night watchman swears the only man he let into the offices late at night called himself Inspector Witherspoon The following morning Mrs Jeffries employer, Inspector Witherspoon, finds himself the chief suspect in a murder investigation Naturally, the main suspect in the murder cannot investigate the case and so, to the horror of Inspector Witherspoon s housekeeper Mrs Jeffries, the utterly incompetent Inspe [...]

This series is always an enjoyable pleasant read The Victorian time frame is a nice setting, to change it up from what I usually read The characters, are also enjoyable it s nice to return to them book after book This book, in particular, had an interesting mystery murder to solve. While the plots are not super complicated or in depth, the books are nice easy read

It s a bit like a less exciting Marple story Although the story itself is compelling and well written, it s predictable and slightly clich The only reason I ended up finishing this book was that I was in hospital all day and there wasn t really anything else to do The beginning didn t really pull me in and it was debatable whether I d continue reading But I was pleasantly surprised when I continued reading because the book is quite good, the characters are likeable and it s written in a way that [...]

2.5 starsBetter than most Inspector Nivens is unpleasant man and quite stupid too Now I understand why the other characters don t like him, excepting for Inspector Witherspoon but the man is too much of a gentleman A good creepy mystery It is actually well planned on the murderer s part.

Someone calling himself Inspector Witherspoon is killing people, and It s up to the staff to solve the case before their beloved employer is arrested Figuring out who the true culprit is wasn t difficult, but the journey is half the fun Smythe and Betsy moved forward with their relationship Fun Now, it s time for a nice cuppa.
